Huge Number of Participation

In the morning of July 10, 2011, huge crowd were clearly seen near Shrirang Vidhyalaya, Thane. Many school kids, along with their parents gathered near this school to participate for the Prospects Cup-Inter school Rapid Chess Tournament. The tournament began at 10 AM and was organized by New Horizons Event Management Company in association with Shrirang sports academy and Joshi sports academy.

The response for the tournament was exceptionally good. Both the parents as well as their wards were equally enthusiastic to participate in this Prospects Cup-Interschool Rapid Chess Tournament. The reporting time for the participants was 8 AM and the kids were present at the venue much before clearly demonstrating the excitement of the participants.

From all over Mumbai, thousands of schools were sent invitations, and students even from Tardeo, Virar, Kandivli, Badlapur took efforts to travel so far and participate in this chess tournament. A tournament organizer said  “More than 750 students reported at Shrirang Vidhyalaya in the morning, but we have allowed only 550 students to participate in this tournament. Because of the accommodation we had to cut down on the ‘on the spot registration’. There are also other chess tournaments going on in the city today, but still we have good number of participation.” In spite of such great participation, girls’ participation forthis Prospects Cup-Interschool Rapid Chess Tournament was hardly five percent.

All these young participants we divided into different groups of Under 7, Under 8, Under 9, Under 10, Under 11, Under 12 and Under 15 and the tournament was held on Swiss League Basis. All the winners from their respective groups were presented with Merit certificates, cash prize and trophies. The tournament which began at 10 am in the morning came to an end at 5.30 pm in the evening which was followed by prize distribution ceremony. The prize distribution Ceremony was attended by Shri. Sagar Naik, Honourable Mayor of Navi Mumbai  with Shri. P. B. Bhilare, Secretary BCA, Smt. Yesvanti Ghanekar; Mr. Vikramaditya Kulkarni, International Master as Guest of Honour.
