Individual-cum-Team Inter-School Chess Tournament


The Second Smt. Anjali Memorial Rotating Chess Trophy Tournament was held on October 2, 2011 at Maratha Mandal Hall, Mulund. This tournament was organized by Dr. Prakash Vaze Sports Foundation. This was the second chess tournament organized by Dr. Prakash Vaze Sports Foundation this year for school kids. Following the success of team inter-school chess tournament, this time individual-cum-team chess championship was organized by the same foundation.

The students were divided into different groups depending on their age and standards. The different groups for students were up to standard second, standard fourth, standard sixth and standard tenth. The tournament was held under the auspices of Bombay Chess Association. More than 300 students participated in this individual-cum-team chess tournament.

The tournament went on for the whole day at Maratha Mandal Hall which was packed with students and their parents. And this successful tournament came to an end on Sunday evening with announcement of results and prize distribution ceremony.  Mr. D.B.Pulekar, Former Secretary of The Bombay Chess Association, was the Chief Guest and he gave away the prizes.

From every group, 10 boys and 5 girls were presented with prizes. Wonder Boy Aditya Jaiswal and Shounak Raikar played exceptionally well by securing 7 points out of 7 points in the under upto second and fourth standard category respectively to clinch Second Late Smt Anjali Memorial Rotating Chess Trophy, a symbol of supremacy in Inter-School chess competition, organized by Dr. Prakash Vaze Sports Foundation.

Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School, Thane did remarkably well by securing titles in both Categories – under upto standard secondand fourth. Carmel Convent School, Badlapur won special Appreciation Prizefor sending maximum entries (41) from a school.
